INT. STUDIO APARTMENT - NIGHT
Pictures are scattered randomly over a coffee table. Pictures
of a man, most of them he is embracing a woman, all smiles
and sunshine.
ALEX
(O.S.)
Oh BRENT, I think about you every
day that you are gone. We used to
be so happy. You were so giving.
Visiting sick children in the
hospital, Feeding the homeless.
(Sound of nose blowing) And then
you were taken from me.
Alex is sitting in an easy chair, talking to her cat, a box
of tissues beside her. Her face is all red and her eyes have
tears in them. She is looking at the pictures. She blows her
nose and continues to speak.
ALEX (CONT’D)
That wound got infected so fast! I
guess that teaches you not to handfeed
the homeless. But who would
have thought that a homeless man
would bite you?! Although he did
look a little wigged out.
The cat who shall remain nameless gets up and runs over to
its food dish, demanding sustenance. Alex follows into the
kitchen, opens the fridge and grabs some sliced chicken. She
deposits most of the food onto a plate for the cat and takes
a bite for herself as she leans down to place it on the floor
in front of the cat.
ALEX (CONT’D)
Now I don’t want you getting near
any crazy homeless people, you got
that, Kitty?
Alex waves a piece of chicken at the cat. There is rattling
on the doorknob that can be heard by Alex in the small studio
apartment, followed by a slow banging. Alex jumps, startled
and looks toward the door.
ALEX (CONT’D)
Whose there? If your selling
something, I’m not interested.
The banging and rattling continues as Alex approaches the
door and peeks through the peephole. She sees Brent and
excitedly begins to open the door.
ALEX (CONT’D)
(as she unlocks the door)
Brent!
As soon as the door is unlocked and partially open she
hesitates.
ALEX (CONT’D)
...but your dead...
During that moment the door bursts open, sending Alex to the
ground and hitting the wall. Brent enters the apartment.
ZOMBIE BRENT
Grrrr, Arg!
Alex jumps up from the floor, backing away slowly. She is now
in the kitchen area groping for anything she can use for
protection. She finds a big pot and a ladle on the stove,
from her left over dinner. Picking them up she spills the
soup all over the ground, barely noticing, her eyes are
locked wide on zombie Brent.
ALEX
Oh bollix!
BRENT
Braaaiiiins!
Brent runs toward Alex as she screams and scampers back.
Brent slips on the soup spilt on the ground, and slams into
the wall. Alex uses that opportunity to bash him over the
head with the pot and poke him in the ribs with the ladle.
ALEX
Do! Not! Try! To! Eat! My!
Brains!(Alex says between each jab
of the ladle)
Alex leans against the wall, panting and winded. She looks
down at the crumpled mess that is Brent. He looks up at her,
a sad, pathetic look on his face. He reaches out a hand,
timidly.
BRENT
...A...Alex? ...Brains? Huuuungry!
Alex, sighing, stands up straight. She stands over Brent and
shakes a finger in his face.
ALEX
Bad Brent! Bad! Do not try to eat
brains! Bad! Now, if your hungry,
pick yourself off the floor and go
sit on the couch. I’ll go make you
a snack.
A look of excitement flashes on Brents face and he clumsily
makes it to the couch. Alex opens the fridge and starts to
prepare a snack. Brent sits down on the couch all slouched
over. The cat hops up and tries to cuddle with a confused
looking Brent.
BRENT
Huuuungry.
ALEX
Hold on, Give me a sec. I’m almost
done. God, you are as bad as you
were when you were alive. I’m not
going to jump to attention every
time you get hungry. Okay, done.
Alex heads over to the couch with a plate of food in her
hands. She looks down and screams.
ALEX (CONT’D)
Ahhhh! My cat! You ATE my CAT!
Brent, covered in cat blood and bits of fur, picking pieces
out of his teeth, looks up in confusion.
BRENT
Derp?
ALEX
(still yelling) I cant believe you
ate my cat! I told you I was making
you a snack! Oh, god, do you know
how tough it is to get out of the
carpet? It looks like I’m going to
have a lot of work to do retraining
you. It was hard enough
the first time, when you were
alive.
Alex looks down at Brent, her arms crossed and frowning.
Brent looks guilty and sad.
INT. STUDIO APARTMENT - DAY
The Apartment is back to its clean and tidy state. Sun is
shining through the window.
Alex and Brent are sitting on the couch, cuddling and
watching TV. Brent uncomfortably reaches up and tugs with one
finger at the collar of his clean and pressed shirt. Brent
has been washed and dressed in clean clothes, but is still
obviously dead. Alex is leaning her head on Brents shoulder.
Brent slowly turns his head and opens his jaws wide, ready to
take a bite. At the last minute Alex notices and darts her
head back. She slaps Brent on the shoulder.
ALEX
No. Bad Brent. Now pay attention.
This is a good part.
Alex points toward the TV. Brent frowns and settles down.
Alex cuddles back up to Brent and they continue watching TV.
Outside is a nice and sunny day. The grass is green, the sky
is blue. Everything is pleasant.
ALEX (O.S.) (CONT’D)
AAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!
BRENT (O.S.)
Om Nom Nom!
