Discovery Project

The most annoying part of my Discovery project was deciding on an idea. I decided on borrowing a concept from The Skilful Huntsman where a group of digital artist students came together to do concept art for a Grimm Fairytale. Once I decide on a Grimm Fairytale of my own I will then choose a couple characters and landscapes to work on. Since I am going into Game Design next year I'm going to put a bit of a twist on this idea by designing these characters and landscapes as levels and character designs for video games of different types, possibly Role-playing Game, Real Time Strategy, and First Person Shooter.

I think I might design these for specific games. I will probably decide on a Final Fantasy style for RPG, Starcraft II style for RTS, and Halo or Gears of War style for FPS. I want to do different eras or genres for each of the gaming styles, Medieval, Futuristic, and Steam-Punk/Cyberpunk.

Finally, I am almost positive that I've decided on Little Red Ridinghood for my project. I have a couple ideas that will be fun to try out. Futuristic might be problematic for a story that takes place mainly in the forest, but I think I have a solution to that problem. I'll have to try it out...

The Characters I chose will be Little Red Ridinghood and the Wolf. The Grandmother would just be annoying to add to this, but if I have time I might add the Huntsman as well.

First step is rough sketches of the characters and the landscape to flesh them out a bit. Next step will be fully realized sketches. Final step I want to work with Photoshop to create both the characters and landscapes in gaming form.

So... yeah. That’s my idea. Let’s see how this works out.
